Oh here we go with the never ending Balkan historical disputes. Let me state some truths here.

The Macedon (Makednoi) tribe was a Doric (Hellenic) tribe that had Illyrian, Paeonian, and Thracian influences due to proximity but the Macedonian Dynasty claimed descent from the Peloponnese.

This explains why the Southern Greeks, and Athenians like Demosthenes, did not like them too well, and petitioned against their hegemony. The felt that they weren't "pure" Greeks. He was simply being an Athenian douche.

Nevertheless they gained power, expanded, and conquered present day Greece and Illyria (Albania), Paeonia, (FYR Macedonia) and Thracia (Bulgaria) before they set out to conquer Eurasia in the name of Hellenism.

I am from Yugoslav Macedonia by the way. We are Slavs, mixed with Illyrians, Paeonians, Thracians, and Hellens depending on which Slavic tribe settled where.

My people are completely historically confused. We had a Bulgarian identity for the past 1000 years and a strong regional Macedonian identity. Now we believe we are pure sons of Alexander and we are nothing like Serbs, Bulgarians in present form. How ridiculous. We are loving a Hellenic identity, yet hate the Greeks. They hated and drove the Agean Bulgarian Slavs out because they were just that: Slavs. Not Ancient Macedonians.

Macedonia is in greece and they are greek. This is completely false.

"we are slavs who came to this area in the 6th century. We are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians." The words of Kiro gligorov(FYROM President FEbrurary 26th 1992)

Macedonians are into relation with Bulgaria like with no other Slavic country. They have been helped by the Bulgarian citizens all the time for their independance and pro Greek politic for Greek churches or whatever Greeks and Ottomans are able to want and rule.
