finds after the last excavations at Kalliakra stronghold
So many and interesting are the latest finds of the archaeolgists from that team with director of the studies Boni Petrunova, which were found at Kaliakra cape. The archaeologists are working on area of 400 square meters at branch, which was unknown till now- that so called suburb. The results for now are very good, for the period of one archaeological season they have found two sepulchres, one stony building and 40 finds.

coin which confirm that Orpheus is Bulgarian
Unique coin with the face of the Rome’s emperor Caracalla and Orpheus at the other side holding tunic is one of the hottest topic, because of the fact that she confirm the theory that Orpheus is Bulgarian. He is standing on caves that are symbolizing the Rhodopes and is performing with lyre, propped up on his left knee. This coin has been found by treasure-hunter 18 years ago, but subsequently has been redempted by famous businessman, who gave it to Nikolai Ovcharov’s archaeological expedition, that is working up on the studies at the Thracian settlement near the village of Tatul. As Nikolai Ovcharov says, this bronze coin confirm that Orpheus has Bulgarian and not Greek provenance. The fact that this coin has been mint at Philipopolis (nowadays Plovdiv) is proof that till the Roman epoch Orpheus has been one of the divinities of the city and the near centers in the eastern Rhodopes. There is only one coin like this. The rare copies are from the time of emperors Antoninus Pius, Geta and Caracalla. At these from Pii and Geta, Orpheus is surrounded from listening to his music animals, when at the coins from Caracalla the musician is siting on cave, symbolizing the Rhodopes.

The unique golden treasure from Thracian time has been found from archaeologists near Sinemorec at hill near Veleka river. That happens when local citizens has been digging the hill for inert materials for building process. The gold is found later when the archaeologists arrived Golden vessels, many golden and silver ornaments and relic clay tiles with the image of goddess mother Earth, honored by the ancient Thracians. Exceptionally esteemed chaplet and pair of golden earrings are some of the other finds from Sinemorec.

At the excavations of the middle age stronghold Kostrici near Evksinograd archaeological team with director of the studies Valentin Pletniov has found well preserved skeleton of woman at the narthex of single-hull church. It is for first time that is found archaeological testified denture. That denture is embracing six front teeth at the upper jaw and probably has been made from some kind of ceramic, because the material does not react to metal. Doctor Pletniov adds that the denture has been used for years, because it is knit with the bone together and has been calcifyed. The tomb, where the skeleton hass been found is dating to the end of 14th and the beginning of 15th century. It can be supposed that the woman has been from illustrious descent.
The archaeologists has found also the foundations of big building at the Kostrici stronghold, probably port warehouse with dimensions 15 meters to 8 meters. That’s the fourth year of continuing archaeological excavations at Kostrici stronghold near Evksinograd, which has been built at Vth century and the name of the stronghold from this period is unknown. The stronghold is demolished at 614th year when are the Avar-Slavic invasions. She has been repaired at the beginning of XIV century and goes popular with the name Kostrici.



New finds from Perperikon

Ancient warehouse were found from archaeologists after excavations at the antique town of the Thracians Perperikon. Professor Nikolai Ovcharov and his colleagues has found four, completely preserved jars with stony lids and capacity between 160 and 200 liters. The vessels are found at culture stratum from the IV th century a.c.
” Probably at the jars has been preserved wine, because there is red precipitation on the walls and any soil is missing, which is typical for vessels used for food preserving ” adds Professor Ovcharov. The participators at the studies has cleaned the water depot at the top of Perperikon, which is six meters deep. The size of this ancient reservoir is 12 to 6 meters and capacity of 270 000 liters water. By Nikolai Ovcharov’s words this water depot is the biggest at the Balkan peninsula.



Archaeologists’ team with director of the studies Krustina Panaiotova has found stony sepulchre dated to the 4th century b.c. It is male tomb and there is green stregul found near it. It is object, used from the athletes in the past.That Krustina Panaiotova’s team has found another tomb few days ago. It is supposed that might be one of gamester, because there were found also cons, dies and pieces. These finds are both from the necropolis at Sozopol. These year might be celebrated the 15th year since the repairing of the excavations there.
