This unique sculptural effigy with head of ancient warrior was found at the conservation works on the citadel in Pliska. For the archaeologists this might be the first human face effigy ever found at Bulgaria. The statue has been made by limestone that must be from the Shumen’s plateau area. The face of the ancient warrior got lineaments of Asian Bulgars. Sign of fight sore at the left cheek gives ope to the archaeologists that the warrior could be one of the rulers during the first bulgarian empire.
“Our first association was similar to the early turks bare liefs, especially the so called “Keman’s grannies”, explain the archaeologist Valeri Grigorov.

These statues look cool. They remind me somewhat of the Easter island albeit being a little smaller.

What a great find that was indeed. Ads even more weight to the whole mystical history bit of Bulgaria.
