Apollonia (nowadays Sozopol) is one of the oldest towns on Bulgarian Thrace’s Black Sea coast. The first settlement on the site dates back to the Bronze Age. Undersea explorations in the region of the port reveal relics of dwellings, ceramic pottery, stone and bone tools from that era. Many anchors from the second and first millennium BC have been discovered in the town’s bay, a proof of active shipping since ancient times.
The town, at first called Antheia, was colonized in Thrace on the shore of the Pontus Euxinus, principally on a little island, by Anaximander (born 610-609 BC) at the head of Milesian colonists. The name was soon changed to Apollonia, on account of a temple dedicated to Apollo in the town, containing a famous colossal statue of the god Apollo by Calamis, 30 cubits high, transported later to Rome by Lucullus and placed in the Capitol. At various times, Apollonia was known as Apollonia Pontica (that is, Apollonia on the Black Sea, the ancient Pontus Euxinus) and Apollonia Magna (Great Apollonia).

The fortress has been built during the 6th century at the foot of older Thrace village. The find of ceramic elements from the late bronze epoch are confirming the thesis that near 1500 years before Christ at Karaburun hill have been placed an sanctuary. As Sanctuary this object is also confirmation about the theory that the sanctuaries are situated at places, where from you can see other one or two other sanctuaries and at the other side the same this places are used with battle and military reasons at later epochs. During the VI century at the top of the hill has been built consolidated settlement with security function around protecting ways and thoroughfares at this area of the Rhodopes, affirms the archaeologists.
Doctor Boyan Domanov from the New Bulgarian University has told that they have been into find of big wall, which is situated at the foot of the hill. She encircle the southern and the southeastern slope, where the hill is most approachable. Second wall, down to the slope and so the frameworks, which the archaeologists are defining as terraces, i.e. the terrain has been terrace-like adjusted for housing construction. The settlement has been existing for about two centuries, with own ceramic manufacture, the find of coins shows clearly that there are rests about trade. At the end of VII century the fortress have been left, without any results for now why.
The object is started after the indispensable need the place to be explored after forthcoming consignance for infrastructure project at 2004. It goes at the Krushak area near Vratica village, where the terrain seems to be unidentifiable for what goes under. Only few ceramic ornaments are announcing for the ancient life. The Thracian kings town Kabile is situated over a plateau, encircled by rock acropolis, that is sanctuary- observatory also. There are finds of Kibela’s relief, foundations of public building and two rectangle rooms, probably with cult character. The name of this settlement is coming from Kibela. The late toponymic of the settlement is Dampolis/Diampolis. There is hypothesis, that Diospolis i.e ” town of Zevs” is version - symbol of the respect of supreme male Ancient of Day, which is probably Sebasius, because of possible etymology Kab-/Sab- which presence at the name Cabyle. The second part of the toponym -yle, that gives possibility for the reasonable interpretation ” sacred forest” i.e the name Cabyle could means “sacred forest of Sabo”, of Sabasius. The same interpretation is supported by thаt hew into the rock sanctuary at the top, used during the 2-1 Mиllenium before Christ.
