Unknown consolidated setllement from the late ancient epoch was found by archaeologists at excavations on the Karaburun hill near the village Banite. The fortress has been built during the 6th century at the foot of older Thrace village. The find of ceramic elements from the late bronze epoch are confirming the thesis that near 1500 years before Christ at Karaburun hill have been placed an sanctuary. As Sanctuary this object is also confirmation about the theory that the sanctuaries are situated at places, where from you can see other one or two other sanctuaries and at the other side the same this places are used with battle and military reasons at later epochs. During the VI century at the top of the hill has been built consolidated settlement with security function around protecting ways and thoroughfares at this area of the Rhodopes, affirms the archaeologists.
Doctor Boyan Domanov from the New Bulgarian University has told that they have been into find of big wall, which is situated at the foot of the hill. She encircle the southern and the southeastern slope, where the hill is most approachable. Second wall, down to the slope and so the frameworks, which the archaeologists are defining as terraces, i.e. the terrain has been terrace-like adjusted for housing construction. The settlement has been existing for about two centuries, with own ceramic manufacture, the find of coins shows clearly that there are rests about trade. At the end of VII century the fortress have been left, without any results for now why.

Team with director of the studies the archaeologist from Sofia University dr. Borislav Borislavov are examining three sanctuaries at Banite area, Smolian municipality. The object ” Gradishteto” is near Drianka village. At the excavations there was found unknown stronghold, dated to the 6th century and sanctuary from the late bronze epoch. The object, that is examined now is near the village Gulabovo at the volley of Arda river and it represent sanctuary from the late bronze epoch. By dr. Borislavov’s words, most surprising is that at this object can be recognized very strong continuity- at the ritual and the area where is placed as well. The sanctuary is used for long time- till the Middle ages 13-14 century. There is permanency for chapel at the highest areas, layed in ruins at the Ottoman invasion, near this one are found debris of building, probably small monastery. The finds are showing that at the area has been situated strong Thracian element, confirmed by the long period that the sanctuary has been used (13-14 century), when the Christiandom has been existing for 10 centuries.


The Bulgarian archaeologist Veselin Ignatov has found fully preserved Thracian chariot at meadow near the town of Nova Zagora. The last comparatively preserved chariots ever found in Bulgaria have been found at Building works the last century. At the most of these cases they’ve been damaged from the baggers or plunder by treasure hunters.
This find near Nova Zagora got large dating- the end of first century- the beginning of third century of the new era and embrace 3 horses - 2 in harness and one break in, two-wheeled carriage with soft hanging, endings from heavy bronze with eagle head’s shape and collapsible iron chair. The scientific team is presuming that at the continuous excavations will find many more objects. That explored till now artifacts are changing the imaginations for the order and peculiarity of the such kind Thracian funerals.
